Battle Tank Arjun will be beating a retreat.

The fate of Arjun Tank is sealed as Army is not in decision to place more orders for Arjun Tank besides of its previous order of 124 tanks, 8 years ago. Following are the reasons -

Arjun, at best can serve for 5-10 years . At present Indian Army requires a  futuristic tank which could serve for a minimum of 20-25 years.
                                                                                                Moreover Arjun is consisting a number of problems like its fire control system, suspension and poor mibility.
The Army carried out winter trials but the tank performed very poorly and there had been four engire faliures .
                                              Though Arjun has been treated as an indigenuous project, imported items like power pack, gunner's main sight and track account for more than 58% of the tank's cost. The cost of each Arjun tank is around Rs. 16.8 crores.
